Partha Pratim Sengupta Appointed as New MD and CEO of Bandhan Bank by RBI
RBI has appointed Partha Pratim Sengupta as the new MD and CEO of Bandhan Bank for a three-year term. Sengupta, a banking industry veteran with experience at SBI and IOB, will take charge by November 10, 2024.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Partha Pratim Sengupta as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bandhan Bank for a three-year term. According to the bank’s stock exchange filing, Sengupta will assume his new role no later than November 10, 2024. The appointment was confirmed after receiving Sengupta's acceptance on October 9, 2024, and a subsequent confirmation on October 10, 2024, indicating he will step down from his current engagements in line with the RBI's terms and conditions.
Sengupta succeeds Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, the founder of Bandhan Bank, who announced his surprise retirement in April 2024. During the interim period, Ratan Kumar Kesh, one of the bank’s executive directors, served as the interim CEO.
Sengupta brings with him nearly four decades of banking experience, having held various senior roles at the State Bank of India (SBI) and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). At SBI, he rose to the position of Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer. In July 2020, he became the MD and CEO of IOB, where he played a pivotal role in bringing the bank out of the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework. He retired from IOB in December 2022. Sengupta has also served on the board of Unity Small Finance Bank, nominated by BharatPe.
Throughout his career, Sengupta has focused on leveraging technology and innovation to achieve business results. His expertise spans areas such as risk management, compliance, treasury operations, and human resources.
Sengupta holds a B.Sc and B.Ed degree and is a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
